Introducing the
Digital Footprint Project

“It is crucial for researchers to understand how to ethically and meaningfully engage survivors in research that impacts us or is about us and to understand the way that the internet amplifies trauma when it’s uploaded online.”

—Rose Kalemba, Survivor & Research Consultant

The Digital Footprint of Sexual Violence is a three-part research project. This final stage is focused on survivor expertise.

We believe that our research and scientific practices must include survivors for the work to be high-quality and valuable. We believe that survivor-informed science leads to better outcomes and more effective policies. We are committed to a framework that values, trusts, celebrates and treats survivor-expertise as equal to any other form of knowing.

Who We Are

“There is a great difference between knowing and understanding: you can know a lot about something and not really understand it.”

—Charles F. Kettering

We are a team of researchers, survivors, practitioners and advocates committed to research on sexual violence that is dignified, meaningful and action-oriented.

The Research Process

We want to be transparent about how long the research process takes. While your contribution will likely only take between 45-90 minutes, it takes an average of two years for research to be made public. We want you to know the timeline and give you a sense of what we will be doing with your data behind the scenes.
